Understanding Car Parts and Their Names

car parts and names

Cars are complex machines that require a lot of different parts to operate properly. From the engine to the wheels, there are many parts that are essential for a vehicle’s performance and safety. As a responsible car owner, it’s important to have a fundamental understanding of the different car parts and their names. This will ensure that you know what to do if you ever encounter any issues with your car.

1. Hood – also known as bonnet in some countries, this hinged cover covers the engine compartment and is designed to be easily accessible for maintenance and repair purposes. The hood can be opened from the inside by pressing a lever or by unlatching it on the front of the car, and can be kept securely closed using a hidden latch to prevent accidents while driving.

2. Clutch – found on manual gearboxes, it starts or stops power transmission to the drive shaft, allowing the driver to change gears. 3. Valve Body – found on automatic transmissions, it channels hydraulic fluid to the correct path to trigger the selected gear. 4. Braking System – this system consists of various components that work together to bring the vehicle to a stop safely and quickly. 5. Tyres – the round rubber components that grip the road, enabling your vehicle to move down the highway.

A bumper is a durable plastic attachment on the front and back of a vehicle that helps absorb impact energy from collisions with obstacles, minimising damage to the vehicle and its passengers. A suspension system is a set of components that reduces vibrations from road irregularities by dampening the compression and rebound.
